You need to buy a pair and then don’t let them be used for anything but cutting fabric. Bonus if they are PINK! Mine is a magnetic pin cushion. Thread- ultimately you will need thread in the colors of fabric you are using, but to get started, just buy some basic colors. Be sure to get black and white. Maybe a few standard colors as well. Seam Ripper- this little guy will be your very close friend. I sew a lot. And I use my seam ripper a lot. He allows you to undo mistakes. Very important. Bobbins- these are the little colorful threads in the middle of my picture. You will wind them using your thread that you purchase, but you need to buy the empty bobbin spools. Every machine is different. Mine takes plastic, some take metal. You manual will tell you what you need. Sewing Machine Needles- needles break. And you need backups. They are cheap- might as well have them on hand to get started. Just buy the Univeral Machine Needles. Tape Measure- any sort (or even a yard stick is fine). Fabric- for now you just need some fabric to experiment with. Pick any sort of basic cotton fabric. Sewing Machine- of course. Old or new, it doesn’t matter. You just need one. Get one from your mom that she doesn’t use any more or ask for one for Christmas or your birthday.
